IT"S OVER!!!!!!

WOW! I can't believe it. Today was my last day of clinic and it actually went pretty well. BOth of my patients were class 3's and so that was great. I had some good learning experiences today. I can't believe how fast time has gone by. I have one more semester left and then I'm graduated. HOwever, today was the first day that I had a professor sit down with me and show me how to get the spots I missed. Thanks so much, Hanson, you're the greatest!!!!!

FINALLY!!!!!!!!

So today was pretty easy. Lab in the morning and then my class 3 patient in the afternoon. Finally, I am done with this patient. She has been here five times to get completely cleaned from start to finish. It was the hardest patient ever but, what a good sight to see her leave:) The funniest thing about the whole treatment was that without fail I could count on my patient falling asleep and snoring. Literally, without fail. It was pretty funny. We now only have one more clinic day left before the semester is done. I can't believe it!! It has flown by so fast.

No luck!

So today my class 3 patient came in and I made a goal to finish the last two quads, but I had no luck. I just have to accept that some people may take 5, ya i said 5, appointments to get cleaned. It is so hard. Good news though, my afternoon patient might be able to be my mockboard in the end on january. We will see, she is coming back in a couple weeks and we will take it from there, so cross your fingers. !!!!!

Holy Freak!!!

Today sucked so bad. I made a goal for myself to finish two quads of my class 3 this morning and only ended up doing one. This patients calculus is crazy, it must mean something when your instructor struggled getting it of, so that made me feel a little better, until the afternoon came. My patient in the past has been a class 3 so I was excited b/c it has been almost a year since he was seen. Well, to bad McKenna, he was type 1 diabetes and his blood glucose level was outrageous!. He ended up being dismissed and can't come back til he has the physician's consult filled out. Suck, suck, suck. So an update- 3 quads of a 3 done, only 5 more to go with only three clinic sessions left. CRAP!!!!! Wish me luck.

Good Day

Today was a great day. My morning patient was a class $ which was a amazing. At first I told my instructor that I need it to be a class 3 since I am struggling on those, but once I got into the oral cavity, I definetly knew that is was going to be a hard 4 and that i should save it for next semester. Thank goodness because it was a lot harder than I Thought. I also did another full mouth of x-rays, which puts me at 56 PA's and we only need 70 total all year, so that's was good.. I did 4 sealants, ari-powder, and diagnodent PE on my niece and then may afternoon patient that said she wasn't coming, showed up anyways, and I did 2 injections. What a productive day!!!!

Easy Day!

Today was pretty easy, thank goodness. We have lab this morning and I was the lucky one to do the saliva testing on. It was pretty funny to see Katie and Natalie's faces. They acted like I had a disease because they couldn't stand watching me spit into a cup. Thanks Kara and Hailey for being strong and not making me feel like I had a disease. My afternoon patient was the nicest guy ever. It makes your day go by so great when you have a good patient that does everything that you ask.

MOCKBOARDS!!

Today was a nerve racking day. I had my mockboards to day and as of last night I couldn't get a hold of her. I was scared that I wouldn't have a patient but she ended up coming. Which was great. I did ok on my mockboards but I am glad it is over. It was a great experience to have because it made me realize what the real boards will be like.

Hardest Day Ever!

So today was the hardest day so far for me. My morning patient was a class 3 which was awesome until I started to scale. This patient has not been to the dentist at all so I bet you could imagine what I saw. It took me almost two hours to clean one quad. The ultrasonic wasn't even touching it- Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww! That's all I have to say :(

GOOD DAY!

Today was a good day. I got both of my 1A's thanks to my sister and a class 2 in the afternoon. To top that I also did another full mouth of x-rays. Good day! I am doing pretty good with the requirements but I am lacking with the Pe's and so I should maybo focus on that. Hope everyone is doing well with their requirements. Only two months to go!!!!!

The day is over!

Today is over and I'm so excited. My day wasn't hard it was just really long. I had a great 1B patient again, story of my life. However, my afternoon patient ended up being a class 5 which is good because I remembered to do it as an exam, which means that I just have one more exam to do the rest of the semester. With my luck though, I won't get it until the last minute!

Power Outage!!

Thursday in clinic started out really great.  I had a patient who had never been to the dentist and had never had x-rays.  WOW!!! To make a long story short, I got a full mouth of x-rays done and my patient was a class 3.  WOOHOO! It's about time, this was my first class 3 and so I was pretty excited about that.  In the afternoon, the power went out while I was working on my patient.  It was funny because I was trying to tell her that the power had gone out and so we need to leave, but she just kept saying ok, but she just stayed in my chair.  She had no idea what I was saying the whole time.  All in all, it was a good day!!!

Just Another Day!

So today didn't start out to great. My morning appointment did not show up and I couldn't find anyone to come and before I knew it, it was to late to have a pt. in my chair anyway. Good start. Some good news it that I did one of our treatment rationales that we have to do on every classification which was great because I now know what I need to do for that. My afternoon appointment was great. It was a good friend of mine and I accomplished a few of my requirements on her. It's so great to have such nice friends, what would you do without them!!!

Great Day!!

Other than having to take my pt's x-rays twice, all of them, might I add, today was a good day.  The best part about today is that my afternoon pt. cancelled last night and so our dear friend Mr. Salamon found me some one that would love to come in.  Little did he know that he gave me a class 2 and this pt. will be used for my mockboards!!!!  Amazing, I know.  For all who doesn't know what that means, rumor has it that we dental hygiene students stress for weeks about finding a mockboard pt. and here I am on the first day of clinic finding one.   It is pure luck, because I never get this lucky.  Good luck to all on finding theirs.!!!!

I'm Back!!!

I can't believe school has started already, the summer went by so fast.  Today was our first clinic day and I have to say that is was a lot less stressful.  In fact I didn't even think about it.  I remember last year I was so nervous and I wanted to make sure I had all of my papers, had the right kind of shoes, and my hair was ok.  Now, it was totally opposite and I loved it.  I didn't stress at all and that feels great.  Good news- we have boards in march instead of may, Bad news-- they are all in one week and we have less time to study.  AAAHHHHHH!! Wish me good luck and good luck to everyone else that is there with me.

Friends are the greatest!

My dear friend Jentri came in today and got her teeth cleaned. It was so nice of her. She lives in Henderson, NV and was in town to see her family and new baby nephew. I just love her to death, what a great friend to take time on her vacation to come get her teeth cleaned. It's great to have such a great friend, thanks so much Jen!! Love ya!! I hope your teeth feel squeeky clean!! Two more day of clinic this semster and I'm done. WOOHOO!!!

I'm finished!!!

I am done with my requirements. It's great. I never thought the day would come but it did. The good news is that all of my next appointments will give me extra quads which I need to pull an A out of clinic. What a good feeling. It has relieved so much of my stress not worrying about getting a patient every time. Now all of my stress can go towards the next five exams that I need to take. Good luck to everyone else in getting the requirements done.

I'm almost done!!

What a great feeling, I finished my last 2 quads of my class 3 and now all I have left to do is finish my mother-in-law and I'm done. I never thought the day would come, It's great. The good news is that the last 4 clinic days I will get extra quads done and so maybe I will pull an A out of clinic. That would be great, I didn't think that I could do it, but I did. Good luck to everyone on finishing there requirements.

No more class 2's.

I have completed all of my requirements for class 2 patients. The only thing left that I need is half a mouth of a class 3. Holy cow! I can't believe it. It feels so good to know that the end of the semester is near. Oh yeah, I do need to finish my mother in law to finish my 1b patients, so I guess I should say is that the only thing that I have not found yet is half a mouth of a class 3. Hopefully I find it soon!!!

Wednesday, March 25, 2009

I got half a class 2 and 3!!

What a great day! I finished all of my requirements for my x-rays. I also got my first 1/2 mouth of a class 3 and 1/2 mouth of a class 2. I am so excited. This was a great day!!!

I learned something today!

Wow, I learned today that you don't have to prob baby teeth. Who would have known, I think I am the only one that didn't know that. Anyways, I have learned now not to prob baby teeth. The good news is that I finished my last requirement for my sealants and another PE. Only 3 more to go!!!

First class two!!!

So today was an awesome day. I finished my first class two. Probably the only one I will get but I got it done. The coolest thing was using the ultrsonic on his lower anteriors and watching as the calculus just popped off. Big chunks. It was so cool. I hope all of you get to experience that. I wanted everyone to come watch, it was that cool.

Worst Day EVER!!1

So twenty minutes into class, still no patient. I was furious. I called them last night to confirm and he said he would be there. Yeah he never showed up and so luckily my mother-in-law works here at good ol WSU and so she came. I was so emotional and I don't know why. I just think what a jerk, i called you last night even.

FMX baby!!

Today was a good day. I finally did a FMX. It was exciting. My patient cancelled on me and so I had my mom, who I was saving for my last resort, come in and I was able to do a FMX. It feels so good to accomplish so much at one time. I have not done and PA's until today and so it was great. The good news is that I only had to do one retake. AWESOME!!!

Just another day!

So today was a good day. Not at the beginning though, my operatory chair wasn't working and then my ultrasonic kept popping out of the handle. I was so frustrated but, I finished my patient and completed two more PE's. It was great. I'm getting a little worried about finding my class 2 and 3 patients. I am hoping that my patient next week is a class 2, i'm crossing my fingers.

Mentally Drained!!

So I feel like I could just pass out and never wake up. My brain hurts from all the tests and studying that I have done. Everyone else probably feels the same way. Anyways, All of the first exams are done and so I can actually breathe. Today was great. I scaled a full mouth today and had no mistakes, none. I was so excited. Usually when I scale a whole mouth I have at least two mistakes but I had none. It was probably because after I hand scaled, I used the ultrasonic for the first time. I was so scared but I used it anyway. My sister didn't complain so hopefully I used it right!!!

Easy Day!!

Today was an easy day, I only had to scale half a mouth. I finally felt the CEJ. I was scaling and I kept digging at this one area, which was probably not good, but then my instructor came and said that it was the CEJ. It was so distinct. I have felt the CEJ before, but it was just slight but this one was a definite one. It was very interesting. I also passed two more PE's off, which is awesome!!

NO mistakes

Today was a good day. I started a new patient again an got to scale one quad. It still takes me 15 min. to scale a quad but the good news is that I had no deposits that I missed. It was completely clean. It made my day. Maybe next time I will be able to get my scale time down a little bit.

Wednesday, January 21, 2009

I met a goal!

Today was a good day. I finally met my goal. I actually did more than I expected. I started a new patient today and finished two quads today. It was great. then on top of that I also did two PE's today, which I wasn't planning on doing. It was great. By the way, I love the phosphor plates. They are awesome. It is so easy, I recommend it to everyone.

GEtting Better

So I am having this problem. With the two patients that we have had so far, I always get done with the OHI early but not early enough to disclose and get a quad scaled. It has happened two times now. So my goal for my next patient is to get at least one quad done in the first appointment. I hope I can do it. I did good x-rays today however. I did digital x-rays and I thought that it was going to be so hard because I hated them last semester, but it turned out that I only had to do 1 retake. I was pretty excited.

Wednesday, January 7, 2009

What a fun day!!

So today was our first day back with a real patient. What fun. I loved it. I don't know why I stress the night before about it but I do and it always ends up being ok. My goal today was to scale each quad in 15 min. I don't know if that is way long or not but i thought that it was a good goal. I met my goal and even ended five minutes early than my goal. Each quad I got a little faster. This gives me hope. I only missed one little spot which was great as well. I hope everyone had a great experience today. Good luck to you all.

We're Back!!

HOly Cow!!! Can you believe that we are already back to school. The break flew by so fast. My favorite part about clinic today was the ultrasonic. It is so much fun and I can't wait to use it on my patients. Good luck to eveyone this semester, we are all in the same boat so don't feel alone!!!
